Warm Vs. Cold Foods & Rock ‘n Roll Love

Posted on Updated on

Good morning everyone!  Hope your Tuesday is off to a great start!  Having a day off yesterday made getting up early this morning so much easier…it’s amazing what a rest day does for your body and I’m already loving this new routine 🙂

But before I get into today, let me start off by showing you all yesterday’s eats.  And I want to preface this by saying, am I weird for only liking warm foods?  I’m not talking about foods that are supposed to be cold, such as yogurt, milk and fruit…but in terms of all other foods, I much prefer them to be warm over cold.  For example, I prefer to eat my salads and sandwiches warm, as opposed to cold…catch my drift 😉  And yesterday, that’s exactly what I had for lunch and dinner.

Lunch:  A warm salad was made with butter lettuce, one large carrot and one red bell pepper sauteed in the pan with some spray butter and seasoned salt, to which I added 1 small avocado, 1/3 cup garbanzo beans, a handful of croutons, and a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette.  It was a perfectly warm and delish hearty salad, just the way I like it 😉

Dinner:  I continued my warm theme by making a grilled turkey sandwich on an Orowheat Sandwich Thin, with one Laughing Cow Swiss Cheese wedge, and a slice of onion.  On the side I had a grilled carrot and a couple slices of zucchini, to which I dipped in hummus.  Beforehand I also snacked on some bagel chips and hummus.

Grilling away…

And the hubby’s grilling masterpiece…

Finished product…

And I ended my dinner with a lil sweat treat of a handful of prunes dipped in peanut butter…I know sounds strange, but if the hubby likes it I guarantee you will too 🙂

Workout:  As I mentioned earlier, this morning I was more than ready to get my workout in, so I bounded out of bed, downed some coffee, and got my booty to the 6am spin class with my workout buddy in tow 😉  Our spin instructor this morning played awesome music.  A mix of dance, hip hop, and none other than some ACDC Thunderstruck and Def Leppard Pour Some Sugar on Me.  It.was.awesome.  I didn’t realize how great it is to workout to that kind of music and before I knew it my head was boppin’ to the beat and gettin’ in the groove.  Made me want to put up one of these too…

I think my hubby was impressed with my new found love for some good ole rock ‘n roll 🙂

Breakfast:  Smoothie time!  Green monster style 🙂

1 1/2 cups Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk

1 frozen banana

1 scoop Peanut Butter Chocolate Casein Protein Powder

1 handful spinach

1 tsp. xanthan gum

2 packets Splenda

Handful of Peanut Butter Puffins

Fashion Page updated!

Questions:  Which do you prefer, warm or cold foods?  Do you like to make normally cold foods into something warm, i.e. salads and sandwiches?

What type of music do you like to work out too?

It’s Daddy’s genes wanting the warm food. I like warm or cold but prefer my leftovers cold!
Any kind of music as long as it’s got a good beat and makes you wanna dance!
    XOXO

I prefer warm foods too. I’ve been meaning to try grilled romaine for a while. It’d be a good way to get those leafy greens in without having to deal with too much cold/crunch. Also, I’m obsessed with taco salads. A little warm beans and rice on a bed of lettuce with some salsa for dressing is perfect.

Hi Emily! Ooo grilled romaine sounds delish! What a great idea! And taco salads are an awesome idea…love the warmth it gives and the salsa is perfect for dressing…what a great summertime meal too! 🙂

I’m totally a warm foods girl too. Not that its summer I don’t eat warm salads all that often, but I still make warm stir fries all zee time. I don’t work in an office anymore but when I used to, I’d get all sorts of strange looks when I’d heat up my salad toppings in the microwave and cover a bed of lettuce with them. I’ve never been much of a sandwich person but a really melty and crispy-edged sammich can definitely persuade me to take a bite, or 5 or 6…

Haha I love your whole comment here and the office story. I always get weird looks with my food too…especially my green monsters…all while eating it with a spoon, ha! Good idea though on warming it in the microwave, never thought of that?! I’ll have to give it a try! 🙂

Hi Lauren! You’re my kinda girl, warm salads and rock ‘n roll love, sweet! 🙂 You gotta give the smoothies some love and try it, it’s delish and you’ll get hooked 😉 And if you can invest in the xanthan gum, it’s about $12 a package, but it’s worth the investment and you only need a tsp. at a time so it’ll last forever…it definitely brings the smoothies to a whole ‘nother level!

[…] I find this place to be a hit or miss, but lately we’ve gotten some really great service (especially if you sit at the bar) and the food has been pretty descent lately. And I’m never let down when ordering my tried and true favorite grilled fajita chicken salad – it satisfies my love of warm foods […]
