Reality Television

Posted on

Hello friends!  Thank you all for your input on yesterday’s post.  Overall it seems I’m the only one here who drinks a lot of liquids while she eats, ha!  And a lot of you had heard that theory before, that’s awesome!  And I loved hearing about your Sunday’s…makes me wish we were that much closer to the weekend! 🙂

So last night hubby and I were catching up on our DVR and watched Sunday night’s episode of Food Network Star…anyone here watching it?!  It’s exciting now that we’re getting down to the final 5 and from the get-go I have loved and am still loving Vic Vegas.  He didn’t do so well this last episode, but we’re definitely rooting for him to win.  I would love to see him and Guy Fieri tag team it in a fun foodie show together…wouldn’t that be a hit?!

I digress…so as we were going through our DVR I noticed a particular pattern…all my (yes my, not the hubby’s) recorded shows consist of reality television.  Is that weird?  Hubby thinks I’m a bit too obsessive over reality television and feels that shows like The Real Housewives and Keeping Up With The Kardashians could skew people’s (especially our younger generation) perception on what true reality is and could leave a certain impression on our young society.  I know I wouldn’t want our young children to watch these shows like The Jersey Shore and The Real Housewives…but see no harm in ones like Top Chef and The Next Food Network Star…so where do we draw the line?

I’ve decided that once we have bambino/a I know I’ll change my television habits as I want our home to be a nurturing one for our children to learn and grow and to not be bombarded by distorted perceptions of reality.  Even better, the T.V. won’t even be a focal point in their/our lives, it will be playing outside with daddy and friends, learning how to throw and catch a football (or better yet use a lacrosse stick 😉 ), and playing board games and activities with one another.  I know we can’t control everything our children are exposed to, but at least we can start somewhere and give them a starting off point for it.  So yes, I’m happy to say that I will soon be out with the Reality Television and in with our Reality Good Life 🙂

Questions: Are you a reality television fan and what are your favorite shows? Do you think it gives a distorted perception to our young generation? If you are a parent or soon to be, what are your thoughts on your children being exposed to it?

Yesterday’s lunch was a good one…my fav meal to date…a turkey, avocado sandwich on a bagel thin, and it was quite delish!

Mmmm…look at that avocado yumminess!!

It was missing a little somethin’ somethin’ so next time I want to add some cheese to give it a lil tanginess 😉

Once I got home from work my tummy was a bit off and couldn’t stomach any meat so I just went with what I felt like and yogurt and salad it was…

Salad with spinach, butter lettuce, sauteed carrots & red bell pepper. Yogurt with Peanut Butter Puffins.  It did a good job of settling my tummy right up!

And before dinner I had snacked on some of these…

Have any of you tried these Skinny Fries from TJ’s?  They’re pretty much airy sticks of salty goodness 😉  And for dessert I had a couple spoonfuls of peanut butter and two mini Krackle bars 🙂

This mornings workout was a 55 minute Spin class.  Even though I had a rest day yesterday, I felt tired during class and didn’t give it my all so I listened to my body and didn’t push much…but it still felt good to get my heart pumping 🙂

Breakfast was a repeat of yesterday…but this time I added a little something special that put it over the top deliciousness…

See on top that tiny glisten of gooeyness…that would be honey!!  I remember my hubby likes to add this to his pb & banana sandwiches and now I know why, it was fantastic!

Hope you all have a great day!  Oh, and on the right side of my blog I added the video “Good Life” to it.  It’s practically our anthem and a song we love so much…although hubby knew how great of a slogan it was loooong before…

See that tattoo there on his right arm…that would be “The Good Life” 🙂

Yes, I think reality is a distorted view for children and even young adults. To must stress on how to look a certain way.

I definitely think it creates a skewed perception — not for my generation so much (I’m thinking about 26 yrs old), but below, absolutely. That is NOT what life is about and is not the norm. I watch a lot of these shows because they amuse me, but my little baby to be will be taught that that isn’t true reality!

Although I have to admit I do enjoy my reality television, Real Housewives and Bethenny Getting Married:), I do not think they are appropriate for children. My husband and I have talked about this and we have agreed that it’s not what we want on in the background and especially once she can understand it. These days it’s Disney on the TV. You and your husband will be wonderful parents some day soon 🙂

Lauren you’re so sweet, that last sentence made our hearts melt 🙂

Exactly, we definitely don’t want it in the background and you can’t go wrong with Disney, that will be the main channel in our household too 😉

And another thing, I definitely don’t want TV to be the focal point either! I’m with you…. I want my daughter to play outside and be involved in activities!

Good choice with the honey…one of my favorite additions!

I am a sucker for reality tv (well, if you can call it “reality”) – and unfortunately, one of my favorites is Jersey Shore…I KNOW, I KNOW! 😉

Noooooooo ha ha! J/K! I admit the hubby and I on more than one occasion have gotten sucked into a Jersey Shore marathon 😉 And I’m addicted to The Real Housewives and I think that’s just as bad! 🙂
