Annoying Work Habits

Hello everyone!  I loved reading all your comments to yesterday’s post…glad to know I’m not the only one who loves certain veggies everyday and that certain ones help with, well you know, to get things moving 😉

So now that we’ve all bonded over digestion together and am happy to know I’m not the only one particular about it, let’s talk about annoying work habits.  Are you one of them?  I subscribe to The Nest newsletter and in my mailbox this morning I got an article stating “10 Annoying Work Habits That Can Get You Fired” – this peaked my interest as I don’t want to be one of those who may do one of these habits without even knowing it?!

So without further ado, here they are…(source)

#1: You dial from speakerphone.

#2: You’re on your BlackBerry during meetings.

#3: You don’t respond to emails.

#4: You’re always bitching about how busy you are.

#5: You’re late to meetings.

#6: You toot your own horn in front of everyone.

#7: You primp at your desk.

#8: You leave messes everywhere.

#9: When you have a problem with a coworker, you go to the boss first.

#10: You talk too loudly on the phone.

If any of you are currently working, I think we could all commiserate with #2, am I right?!  Sadly, I don’t think I could think of one time throughout my entire career where no one got on their BlackBerry during a meeting…sad huh?  It also brings me back to my previous employment where I was the Executive Assistant to the CEO, and unfortunately, it was an experience straight out of Devil Wears Prada for me.  It first started out as a great opportunity, but that was sadly thrown out the window once he got “comfortable” with me and showed me his true colors…my coworkers warned me of this too.  Anyway, I’ll save the rest of that lesson for another post, but what I’m trying to get at is this CEO would be in very important meetings with his partners, associates, clients, etc., and would be on his BlackBerry 24/7.  I kid you not.  That, and while in his meetings, he would yell down the hall for me to get him his tea (green tea with a splash of non-fat milk and one packet Splenda to be exact), or his calendar, or itinerary, etc….oh yes, it was good times.

So not to toot my own horn (hee hee #6!), but I’m happy to say that through my perspective, I don’t resort to any of those “annoying work habits”.  I pride myself on being a respectful employee who appreciates working where I do and I hope my employer notices that…and I admit I’m the perfectionist type who likes to please and make everyone happy.  But in the end, I’m sure there are some areas I could improve on…like not stinking up the whole place with my microwaved egg whites or toasted cinnamon raisin English muffins…I guess things could be worse, right?! 😉

Speaking of food…here are yesterday’s eats!

Lunch: Another salad beast!  However this time instead of turkey I used garbanzo beans for my source of protein…my best at trying to switch things up! 😉

Butter lettuce, 1/2 cup garbanzo beans, 1/2 avocado, sauteed red bell peppers and carrots, croutons, and drizzled with homemade Italian balsamic vinaigrette.

Dinner: “Pork chops and applesauce…isn’t that swell?!”  Quick what show is that from?! 😉

Although we didn’t have any applesauce so we went with grilled nectarines!

It actually made for a nice component to the pork…

Grilled pork sandwich on an English Muffin with grilled nectarines. Side salad of bell peppers, mushrooms, and zucchini.

Yesterday and today I’ve missed having my workout buddy with me, but this morning I was able to have him for 15 minutes for the early Ab class!  Something was better then nothing 😉  After Ab class the hubby left to work and I stayed for the 45 minute Bootcamp class.  Whew was it a doozy today!  The class had been recently cut from 60 to 45 minutes and let me tell ya, the instructor more than makes up for that 15 minute loss.  He go go goes without any breaks and I’m a sweaty beast afterwards…through class I’m huffing and puffing and saying expletives under my breath, but in the end I’m always happy to leave feeling exhausted (in a good way!) and in a sick way love that kick butt feeling 😉

I was so happy coming home knowing that my breakfast was ready to go with me to work and no prep or cooking had to be involved…

Overnight Oats! 1/3 cup oatmeal, 1/3 cup Fage yogurt, 1/3 cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk, 1 tsp. chia seeds – topped with Peanut Butter Puffins and a sliced banana

Mmmm yummy goodness! And don’t mind my paperwork in the background – it’s multitasking at its finest 😉

    Oh my gosh my boot camp instructor would be the same way. He is sooo intense, I can’t even imagine his class being shortened to 15 minutes- he’d kill us LOL!

    These annoying habits are right on! My biggest pet peeve is people who talk non stop and loudly! Being in a management position, I read a book called “The One Minute Manager” and it has really taught me a lot. I would recommend it for anyone, even people that are not managers. It brings a lot of good insight to goal setting and what’s expected from you at work.

    And the Blackberry habit is so annoying! I was in a meeting with a representative of a company trying to sell their product to us and right in the middle of her presentation she stopped to check her Blackberry!

    Managers or Supervisors who treat their employees like they are not important to the company and can easily be replaced!

    Oh goodness, what drives me crazy is when I have someone at my desk and a coworker is calling my phone and letting it ring 500 times. It doesn’t go to voicemail when it’s an internal call so it can just ring until the person hangs up. Hello! I’m not available to answer your call at this moment! Geesh! 🙂

      Oooo that’s an annoying one!! Some people just seem to be in their own world sometimes, ha! 😉
