Happy September!…And New Goals

Posted on

Good morning everyone and happy September! Can you believe in a couple weeks it will official be fall?! Seriously, where did our summer go?! However I’m not complaining one bit about summer coming to an end and fall opening up to bring new beginnings and opportunities. When I think of fall it brings a feeling of nostalgia for football and Sunday traditions, fall fashion (my fav!) filled with scarves, boots, and sweater dresses, celebrating the holiday’s with family and friends, scents of pumpkin, butternut squash and cinnamon, and continuing our journey to trying for a baby.

September also holds the most special day of my life. Our wedding anniversary – the day I committed to my husband my love and partnership until death do us part. And it’s the day I decided to say goodbye to my struggles, and hello to a new life filled with possibilities, hope, and the future to live another day. It will forever haunt me that I wasn’t as healthy as I am today back 3 years ago on my wedding day, but instead of looking at it in regret, I can look at it as the day I decided to make a change, become a happier and healthier person, and continue to live this wonderful life with my husband and family.

September will always hold a special place in my heart for many reasons, and starting today, I want to make this month the best one yet. With the beginning of a new month and new season, I’d like to set some small goals to jolt some motivation in me again. And as always with this blog, I hope to keep this as a place for all of us to come together to talk about our struggles, laugh, cry, hope, and dream. So with that, here are my goals for September…

  1. Change my workout routine – Some of you may be wondering what’s happening on the period front. Nothing yet so that tells me that a) I either need to change my workout or b) I’m pregnant. Of course I’m praying for the latter, but you know how it goes in that you have to wait a couple weeks to take a test and those pesky things are expensive so I can’t test everyday (even though I’d really like to!) All in all, I’ll keep you all posted on this πŸ™‚
  2. Incorporate yoga and more strength training into my weekly workouts. Based on my research and in talking with the lovely ladies here in the blogging community who have had similar period/conceiving troubles, my workouts are still too intense. I’ll be posting about said workout routine next week after I mull it over with the hubby this weekend – he’s a smarty pants and a certified personal trainer so he can guide me in the right direction along with my research.
  3. Cook! I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I really need to start cooking more. However hubby and I noticed that in the fall and winter months, I am more inspired to cook hearty, comforting meals, while in the summer I just stick to salads. I’m definitely one whose eats are effected by the seasons, so I’ll be happy to soon say goodbye to smoothies and salads, and hello to crock pot meals, butternut squash, and pumpkin! I know the hubby will appreciate this too πŸ˜‰
  4. Take more pictures for the blog. I don’t know what it is, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve missed great picture opps with the hubby or have eaten delicious food and have not snapped a photo! It irks me like none other. It sounds simple but when put into action I just have a hard time remembering – any bloggers out there have advice for me on this one?!
  5. Make a baby. Enough said πŸ™‚

So that’s it! They’re only 5 goals, but they’re 5 big goals for me and I’m excited to get this month started…along with those football Sunday Funday’s πŸ˜‰

Today was a rest day for me and it was glorious…hubby and I got to snuggle for an extra hour and it was just what we needed. I decided to switch up this morning’s breakfast and make a cereal combo a la Courtney…and it was delish, Courtney you’re on to something here πŸ˜‰

Peanut Butter Puffins and Kashi Go Lean Crunch with a sliced banana – Almond Milk added afterwards – I hate soggy cereal!

Yesterday I stopped by the grocery store for some essentials and snatched up a new treat I’ve been seeing numerous commercials for lately…

They were actually pretty good! It’s like a cross between a cookie and a cracker, slightly sweet and salty, and you can definitely taste that blueberry flavor. I added some to hubby’s lunch today, hopefully he likes them! πŸ™‚

I bet they’d be good dipped in some pb or topped with my new love, goat cheese πŸ˜‰

Questions:
What’s your favorite part of fall?

Do you have any goals for September?
Do your meals change with the seasons?
Any bloggers out there have picture taking tips for me?!

Shayla! what are you doing wasting time making blog posts? You should be making a baby so we can all see how adorable its going to be because im sure you and todd are going to have possbily the most attractive baby ever!…. only kidding πŸ™‚ Im sure it will happen for you guys
and it sounds like things might be promising, fingers crossed for you guys! πŸ™‚
Oh, and I am the absolute worst at taking pictures for the blog, I forget a lot or they just dont come out appealing. 90% of the pictures on my blog are taken with my phone because I always have it on me and its the most convenient but it doesnt always produce the best quality pics

Andrea, you are too awesome and so sweet, you just put a big fat smile on my face, and I know it will put one on the hubby’s too πŸ™‚ Thank you so much for your sweet comment – and yes keep all your fingers (and toes!) crossed!!! πŸ˜‰

Ha I take so many pics that come out awful too and often have to resort to using my phone as well which don’t have the best quality either. Once my BlackBerry contract is up I’m definitely going to look into phones with blogging needs in mind! πŸ˜‰

Well since it actually gets MORE like summer in September and October in San Diego, I am still looking forward to laying on the beach! Back on the East Coast I loved the cooler temps, the leaves changing, and pumpkin showing up everywhere!

I just downloaded a really good app for taking pics on my cell phone. I used it like crazy paddle boarding yesterday and got some good pics for the blog! I like it because I always have my phone with me, and not necessarily a camera!

Yes we’re so lucky to live in California and enjoy the summer temps for a couple more months which is so awesome, love that Indian Summer!

I love being able to use my phone too but I just wish it took better pics like yours seems to do. Since blogging, my criteria in a phone has dramatically changed so once my contract is up I’m definitely getting one with a good camera! πŸ™‚

Oh I sooo hope your pregos I’ll be praying. Happy anniversary too.
I love this idea about September goals. Its my birthday month and I have alot going on right now so i think its appropriate I set some goals too.
I’m struggling getting my weight up and have thought about going inpatient like I did 6 years ago but after some heavy praying and going back and forth I’ve decided to give it a go here at home by really eating some of those foods I call “bad”. So I’m going to try new things every week. In honor of starting today I did pizza, tomorrow I’ll do a peanut butter smoothie from my fav smoothie place and I’ve cut my workouts to 3 days a week which is killing me but my goal is to keep it at 3 till I get to a healthier weight.

And happy birthday month to you! This is a perfect month for you to set some goals and I have faith in you to tackle them. Congrats on the huge steps you’ve already accomplished. I know how hard it is to eat “fear” foods and lowering exercise…it’s a very tough mental battle but I know you can get through it. Stay strong and I’m always here for you if you need to talk πŸ™‚

    AWESOME goals Shayla πŸ˜€

I too need to add yoga/strength training t my routine… I focus 100% of my time on running. NOt good! My core is suffering haha

Regarding goals #1 and 2, you may want to look into Vitex. It is a natural supplement that gets female things, um, working haha It took me a long time to get it back, and my training still makes it fluctuate. However! Eating lots of healthy fats like avocado (wich I know you like :)) and walnuts and avoiding soy helped me greatly.

I bet goat cheese would be divine on those cookies! I bought the orange cranberry ones a while back. Pretty delish!

Fall: Jackets, sweaters, boots, kabocha squash, better running weather, more motivation πŸ™‚
Goals: Let my leg heal, get better for 2 half marathons on October, don’t overdo it on the squash and brussels sprouts this year, plan a vaca…. save money for a vaca would help too πŸ™‚
Meals: kabocha squash, warm oats, soups and stews, more baking
    Photo Tips: Natural light!

      Thank you Sarah!! πŸ™‚

My spinning/yoga instructor has told me what great benefits yoga has for spinning enthusiasts (me!) and runners (you!). Girl we definitely need to get into it!

I love your goals and I’m sure you’ll rock those half marathons, good luck! And the hubby and I have overdid it on the Brussels sprouts and squash during peak season before…oh boy, not so fun if ya know what I mean πŸ˜‰ I would love to go on a vaca too, is Vegas still on the agenda?!

Thank you so much for those tips, I’ll have to look into Vitex, I had never heard of that before. And I have heard of healthy fats helping so thankfully like you said I love avocado (!), but I should try adding in more walnuts and nuts like you suggested. And natural light for photography, yes! That is a great tip! Thank you πŸ™‚

great goals…I hope number 5 happens for you real soon!!!
