Hi everyone!! How has everyone been doing?! Can you believe it’s February already?? Crazy. I know I’ve said this time and time again but the days, months, and years really do fly by so fast…and I think it just keeps getting faster the older I get! 😛
There’s really not too much going on in my life right now…however I’ve noticed that as I get older and with time going by so fast, that life is too short to not make that time to spend with your friends…especially those that I’ve lost touch with since high school. Last weekend I had the great pleasure of seeing a best friend of mine in high school. We picked up like no time has passed (10+ years worth!) and it was such a joy to reconnect with her…talk about our jobs, marriage, husbands, babies, and life in general. If you’re reading – love you girl!
I admit that I sometimes put myself in this “bubble”, especially during my eating disorder days, and didn’t want to see anyone. I was so wrapped up in my struggles, hated the way I looked, and couldn’t even make plans with friends for fear what they’d think of me and see how unhappy and skinny I looked. Lately though I’ve realized that not only has recovering from my struggles made me a healthier person inside and out, but it has made me a more confident person and be who I want to be, take new risks and change in my life, and to open up to new and old friendships…and for that I will be forever grateful in recovering and being healthy again. I’m so happy to have reignited old friendships from my childhood, and it feels so good to let go of my “bubble”, reclaim these friendships, and know that they’ll always love me for who I am…and I’ve come to learn that those true friends, are the ones that accept you for who you are 🙂
And with that…I have to leave an oldie but goodie photo of my best friend and I from our high school days…I hope she doesn’t kill me for posting this 😛
I’ve realized that with how quickly time goes by, it’s so important to make time for friends, family, and loved ones. Reconnecting with old friends really does feel so great and there’s no other bond better than that between women. I hadn’t realized it at the time, but one of my New Year’s goals is to reconnect with old friends (in person! FB doesn’t count 😉 ) and to just enjoy your days that you have here with those you love. I think trying for a baby and wanting to be a mom so badly has put a lot in perspective for me and has made me realize that your looks, your job, and your money is not the end all be all to your life – it’s about doing what makes you happy, living your life to the fullest, and to cherish every day you have with loved ones.
One other reason why I may be getting emotional is that this weekend I get to spend it with my other very bestest friend (my sissy!) to participate in a fundraising event called Cycle For Survival. Over 5 million has already been raised and it’s truly amazing what has become of this movement. Here’s a little synopsis of what it’s about:
Co-founded in 2007 by Jennifer Goodman Linn and her husband, Dave, Cycle for Survival is the national, indoor relay-style team cycling event that has raised more than $14 million in support of lifesaving research on rare cancers at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and in the past five years has funded twenty-five clinical trials and research studies.
Cycle creates an opportunity for each of us to truly make a difference — every dollar raised by Cycle goes directly to Memorial Sloan-Kettering for research on rare cancers, paving the way for new, more effective treatment options.
Cycle is one of the world’s fastest-growing athletic fundraising events. Cycle 2012 will be the biggest ride to date with over 10,000 cyclers from across the country teaming up with friends, family and coworkers in New York City, Chicago, Long Island, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington, DC and at satellite events worldwide!
Join the movement that brings hope to lives touched by rare cancers. Register or join a team today or make a gift to Cycle. No one beats cancer until we all beat cancer. Together, we can make a difference! (source)
Sadly Jennifer Goodman Linn lost her battle to cancer last summer 2011. She is such an inspiration and I am so happy and proud to be a part of such a significant event and to carry on her legend. Here is a video of her journey…
I hope you all have a very happy weekend, and remember, life is too short – call a friend, hug your family members, kiss your loved ones, and remind them how very much you love them…xoxo
Do you stay in touch with your childhood/high school friends? How do you keep those connections alive?
Have you ever participated in a fundraising event?
Any fun plans for Friday night or this weekend?!
Happy first of November everyone!! Can you believe we only have 2 months left until the new year?! Seriously, where does the time go? I feel like this past year went by in warp speed – maybe it’s because I’m in a job I’m happy with and it being my first year here made the time go by fast? I don’t know, but either way time really has been flying by so fast. Not only that, but in this year I’ve battled 2 colds and I’m on my 3rd one right now. Seriously, in my entire lifetime this has never happened to me…I don’t know what’s going on with my immune system but I don’t like it! So, sorry if my posts this week will be on the less wordy side, but I’m not feeling too good and my head is in the clouds and foggy feeling, so blogging this week will be kept on the light side 🙂
I’m happy to hear I’m not the only one who loves their Uggs! I’m super excited to start wearing them during this winter season while running errands since they’re super comfortable and warm. And I’ll finally have happy feet this holiday season while running around Christmas shopping – sweet!
I’m loving this look with Uggs…(source)
So continuing from yesterday’s part 1 of our weekend recap, after my fun-filled day with my sister it was time to head home and pretty up for a night out on the town with the boys. To save some money at the wine bar, us girls started with a bottle of Mumm’s champagne (super good!) and the boys had their manly drink of Jack Daniel’s and Diet Coke (a fav of my daddy’s too ;)). After some drinks and snacks of salami and cheese, the cab picked us up and took us to B Street and Vine. We don’t mess around and bellied up right to the bar…
This restaurant is known for the amazingly delicious bruschetta. They have about 15 different varieties and you get to choose 4 for $12, and since each one comes in 4 slices we had to do two rounds of this yumminess.
But first! You need something to wash it down with, so my sis and I went with a flight of Reisling – a nice tasting of my favorite wine!
Our #1 round of bruschetta…
From top to right – Mozzarella with Tomatoes and Basil; Spicy Hummus with Tomatoes and Avocado; Salami with Pesto (it was too good to not get again!), Olive Tapenande with Feta, Cucumbers and Tomatoes
Then shenanigans ensued – me drinking from the carafe…
And my sister’s boyfriend knows the key to our hearts…he snapped these amazing photos of their desserts…I know what we’re getting the next time we’re there!!
We wanted to continue the fun so we walked down a couple blocks to Central Park Bistro. They have my fav Champagne Cocktail and I knew my sis would love it!
My sis got in on the fun too…and I spy a creeper in the background…
We only lasted one round of drinks before we thought it was best to head home. We had a sleepover over at my sister’s pad so we all got our comfies on and ordered North Beach Pizza, the best pizza around here. We got a large of half cheese and half meat combo – we killed it 🙂
Such a fun night and I hope we do it again soon! I know we already have November 13th on the books for us – it will be Todd’s Urbanathlon in San Francisco and then we’re going to celebrate afterwards – should be a blast!
Hope you’re all having a great start to your November and I may or may not see you back here tomorrow – depending on how I feel, ugh!
Do feel like this year went by fast?
Have you kept it sick-free or are you catching colds like I am this year?
Do you like bruschetta? What’s your favorite combination? I have to say that salami one was my fav, and the apples with brie is a close second!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!! 🙂
I hope everyone is having a great start to their Monday so far! Are any of you dressing up?! Todd and I are the Bah Humbug’s of Halloween this year. No pumpkins and no costumes…I know, pretty lame huh? Perhaps next year though we’ll rally and celebrate big 🙂 And can you believe Todd and I in the last eight years we’ve been together we’ve never carved a pumpkin together before?! I can’t even remember when the last time I carved a pumpkin was…probably 1982? Haha just kidding, that’s when I was born, but it definitely was a long long time ago and I hope we can change that in the near future 😉
So anyway, back to the good stuff…my sis and I had one epic weekend. It’s probably been the best one we’ve had together in a really long time and I’m so happy we got to spend some quality time together. I’m so lucky to not only have such a wonderful, loving sister, but also the bestest friend in the whole entire world – love you sissy! ❤
Since our weekend was so amazing I’m going to split it up into two parts – part 1 being the first half of our day on Saturday – some sisterly love if you will 😉
Our day started off at 11am with a pedicure date. We both got the bug to get French on our toes and I absolutely love the look of it…clean, fresh, and super girly…
Once we prettied our toes it was time for lunch at our favorite spot – Fresh Choice – and I started off with the standard salad beast…
Then it was off to our new frozen yogurt shop obsession – U Love!! Sadly I forgot to take a pic of the yumminess as I was far too excited to eat it – but I did snap a pic of the aftermath…
Then it was off to run some errands. Or should I say, Xmas came early for this girl 😉 My sister is beyond generous and gifted me with some early Xmas treats…I needed a new soap dish since I was using the box my soap came in as my dish (pretty classy huh?), so we headed to Bed Bath & Beyond and found this adorable one…
Then it was off to Hillsdale Mall to grab some essentials for my sis at the MAC store. Although before that we couldn’t help but stop by the Macy’s Holiday Lane store which we were surprised to see had opened already.
Side note – Doesn’t it seem like stores are starting the holiday spirit earlier and earlier every year or is it just me?! I do love the festive holiday spirit but then it reminds me of all the shopping I gotta do, yikes!
Anyway, this store has the best selection of holiday ornaments, gifts, knick knacks, etc…and I know awhile back I’ve mentioned here before how penguin obsessed Todd and I are so my amazing sister couldn’t pass up getting these for us…
Then it was the epic gift of all epic gifts…Todd and I are going to Upstate New York to visit my in-laws the week before Thanksgiving and you know what that means – cold snowy weather – which I’m actually very excited for and absolutely cannot wait to be in the snow!! I haven’t seen the snow in years and I am thrilled to not only be with my in-laws, but to be in the snow. However, you know this California girl has no cold weather gear whatsoever so my wonderfully generous sister got me the best Christmas present ever…
She’s letting me have them now so I can wear them on my trip! And I know I can’t wear these in the snow or rain, but at least I have boots to keep my tootsies warm being that the only other boots I own are leather or suede and that won’t cut it for my trip. So I’m super excited to now finally have fashionable, comfortable, warm boots to wear with my leggings and skinny jeans – yay!
And that’s where I’m ending part 1 of our epic weekend…I think it’s fitting to finish part 2 tomorrow for the second part of our day when we’re with the boys – gotta devote a whole post to sisterly love 😉
Hope you all have a fun and safe Halloween and although we won’t be celebrating with pumpkins and costumes, we at least have these to celebrate with tonight…
P.S. Jessica Simpson finally broke the big news – yipeeeeee!! Read *here*
How are you celebrating Halloween tonight?!
Do you own Ugg Boots? I have always loved Uggs, but the hubby absolutely despises them, until I tried them on for him yesterday and they’re starting to grow on him...he also despised the jeans/leggings tucked into boots trend but now that that’s all I wear every fall/winter season he loves it now – I’m hoping that’s how it’ll be with the Uggs! 😉
When was the last time you visited the snow? And for those that live in it, have you witnessed your first snowfall yet?!
