A Very Special Weekend

Posted on Updated on

Hi everyone!! Sorry to be MIA for so long – I’ve been getting caught up on work and errands before I leave for my trip to New York. And I just wanted to give you all a heads up, so you’re all not worrying about me ;), that I’m disconnecting from the computer for a bit. With our trip to New York and then celebrating Thanksgiving with my side of the family I’m going to take this time to relax, so no blog posts or commenting on blogs will be happening from me for a couple weeks. So until then, today will be my last blog post and once back home and at work I will definitely have an awesome recap of New York and our Thanksgiving – can’t wait! 🙂

****

This past weekend was a very special one – it was spent with a very special friend and family and those two things are pretty much what equals living the good life means to me – along with some very yummy food too 😉

Friday I spent the day with a very special new friend of mine – the beautiful Shanna and her adorable baby bump 😉

Shanna brought up a great point on her blog that really resonated with me and we touched on it a bit together that day – that now older, out of school, and days spent mostly at work – it’s quite difficult to make friends, and find girlfriends that are truly nice and have a lot in common with. Well, I hit the jackpot with this girl because she is truly such a sweet and genuine person and I’m loving the friendship we’re building and will continue to grow – we have so much in common and have a great connection, and I’m very fortunate to have her as a new friend 🙂

As you can see above, we started our day with frozen yogurt at U Love – it was delish and we were loving every minute of it. I got Peanut Butter and English Toffee fro yo with an animal cracker, nilla wafers, kit kat pieces, snickers, brownie pieces, some M&M’s, peanut butter chips…and I think that’s it?!

We then continued the fun to Bella Nails to get pedicures and relax in the best massage chairs – it was so relaxing and an awesome way to get in some girl chat and learn more about one another. Then we stopped by Starbucks for something to warm our bellies since it was rainy and chilly out – I remember Shanna had blogged about a Skinny Peppermint Mocha that she loved so I knew that’s what I had to get. It was delish and definitely didn’t taste Skinny at all – I think it’ll definitely be a new winter staple of mine 😉

Next up was the grocery store to pick up a couple ingredients for a lil baking extravaganza. Shanna has this amazing recipe for Pumpkin Raisin Bread Pudding and this was our first time making it so it was fun to tackle and taste something new together 🙂

It was absolutely delish and we ate our pieces while relaxing on the couch doing what girls do best – chit chatting and watching Giada on Food Network 🙂 And if you want the recipe, check out Shanna’s blog this Saturday for the deets!

****

Saturday was spent just lounging around and doing errands – it was pretty relaxing since hubby was getting ready for his big Men’s Health Urbanathlon race on Sunday! It was so much fun and I’m so very proud of him for such a huge accomplishment!

But first, lemme back up a bit! So the race started at 7am and we had to be there at 6am so that the participants could start warming up. My wonderful sister joined us for the day to help me root Todd on and keep me company, heehee. She’s the absolute best and a good sport for meeting us at the house at 5am – on a Sunday nonetheless. Love you sissy! 🙂

It was dark and chilly, but thankfully I had my Uggs keeping me warm…

Sorry for the blurriness!

But the time actually started going by pretty fast and before we knew it friends of ours and trainers at our gym Equinox started trickling through and before we knew it, it was time for the boys to start warming up!

Gettin’ ready…

And he’s off!!!

Sissy and I had about an hour to kill until it was time to walk to the finish so we stopped by Starbuck’s…a lil something to warm us up and get my second Skinny Peppermint Mocha of the season! Told ya it’d become a staple of mine 😉

Along with some amazing Biscoff Cookies that my sis had brought – you must try them. Especially dipped in coffee, pure bliss 🙂

After our coffee we walked the couple miles to the finish line and after about 10 minutes of waiting we spotted the hubby!!

Go Todd Go!!!

Whoo hoo!!! Finish time: 1:33:09 – 10.2 mile course of running and obstacle courses

So proud!

And then what does any sport event end with – beer!!! We enjoyed a few before heading home…

We then headed to my parents house for some food and football action – go Niners!!! 8-1! 🙂

And caught some photos of the amazing sunset we had that night…

It really was such a very special weekend and I couldn’t have asked for more – it was the perfect way to end my weekend here before heading to New York where I’ll be getting in even more family quality time.

I hope you all have an amazing Thanksgiving and if traveling, I wish you all a safe and fun holiday!!! See you all back here in a couple weeks 🙂

Questions:
What makes a very special weekend for you?
Are you traveling these next couple weeks?
Any fun plans for Thanksgiving?

If I don't hear from you, have a FABOOSH time in NY. Enjoy the holidays, eat TONS of pie, and have "the good life". 😉

Anytime we have company from out of town is always super special for me. Since we live away from all family and most of our close friends, it is always so fun getting to spend quality time with the people we love and care about the most!

We don’t have any travel plans in the near future and no one is coming out to visit us for Thanksgiving, so it will just be the hubs and I.

I hope you have the best trip ever and enjoy Thanksgiving with your family! I can’t wait to read about your recap as I know you will have a fun time!

Yes it’s definitely so fun to get together with your loved ones – there really is nothing better than being with family 🙂

Thanks so much Kjirsten! I feel it will be a blast too and I can’t wait to recap it all with you as well! If I’m not able to comment on your blog I hope you, the hubby, and Quincy have a very happy Thanksgiving!!! 🙂

I’m gonna miss you too for the next couple of weeks, but it’s great that you’ll have the diligence to unplug and spend quality time with the fam. I should try it sometime! hehe 🙂

Sounds like you had an amazing weekend! I had my first Peppermint Mocha of the season over the weekend too. It was delish! Now that I know the Skinny Peppermint Mocha tastes yummy, I’m going to have to try it out!

Have an awesome trip to NY and a Happy Thanksgiving! Can’t wait to hear all about it!

Yes! Try the Skinny version – it really tastes like the real one and I think you’ll love it just as much!

If I can’t pop in I want to wish you and the hubby a very happy Thanksgiving too!! 🙂

First, I must say that I absolutely LOVE that last picture of you. You are beautiful, girl. Just beautiful!!
Special weekends for me include relaxing, wine, fro yo, and QT with friends.
No traveling for me in the next couple weeks – all of my close friends and family are local!
As for Thanksgiving, I’m cooking my first one for family! AHHH! 😀

By the way, we’re in your neck of the woods right now – visiting the in-laws who live right by Keuka Lake…it’s a ways from you but we’re in the same state! Hello my dear-I just found your blog and have been reading some back posts-wow your story is so similar to mine. I am recovering from some disordered eating and have done well-still not perfect (you know how that is) but better than ever. My hubby and I would like to try for a baby and I too have HA (no perios for nearly 2 years). I am 5 8 and 125 pounds. I’m quite certain based on my research that I need to work on gaining a few more pounds and am trying but its so hard as you know. I’m just coming around to liking my body now-plus 10 or so pounds not sure. But I tell myself if I can’t handle this how will I handle pregnancy and eating enough to support a growing baby-theres more important things in the world than my vanity-lol. But we both know that’s not what this is about. I also have a history of doing a bit too much on the exersice front also. Due to a repetitive strain injury I have to take at least two weeks off of anything except walking and I can;t belive how much anxiety this is creating!! Ahhhh. I am curious about your history-there was a comment I read in one of your posts about how you used wine to escape from your ED-I am seeing a bit of a pattern there myself and I’l love (if you are OK with it) to hear how you overcame that one…….Thank you so much for your blog-especially the stuff on HA-its hard to get support on that one-I feel really guilty and that I have wrecked my body and my chances for a family.

      Hi Jacqui!

So happy you have found me and together we can get through this! I have researched a lot about HA and am discouraged when I can’t find a lot of info pertaining to it…it’s something that I feel we all have to struggle with in silence. However, I did come across this amazing forum dedicated to women who have HA and there they discuss their trials and tribulations in trying to get pregnant while dealing with HA, here’s the link: http://www.fertilethoughts.com/forums/lifes-journey/343535-hypothalamic-amenorrhea-4894.html

In reading these other women’s experiences with HA and those that got pregnant, 99% of them got pregnant either naturally or with the help of fertility treatments (clomid, femara) once they drastically reduced their exercise or stopped it completely, and got to a BMI of 22-23. I too am trying to grasp the fact that I will most likely have to (once again!) gain more weight in order to get a period and therefore get pregnant. I’ve read that a lot of women have to gain past their comfortable point in order to reset their body, but once they have the baby, they’re able to get back down to a lesser (still healthy!) weight. Unfortunately, we’ve just done so much damage to our bodies and for some reason ours our more sensitive fertility-wise than others, and we have to take extra care for our bodies in order to get pregnant. Please don’t get down on yourself – our time will definitely come in getting pregnant and please check out that forum – the support there is fantastic and it’s helped me stay positive.

In the coming weeks I’ll do a post on this and I’d also be more than happy to post about my drinking to escape my ED and how I overcame that. Thank you so much again for stopping by my blog and I hope you continue to follow so we can help each other along this journey 🙂 xo

Hi Shayla, Can I ask more about how you came out of low weight? I’m underweight and not exercising 😦 So hard…gaining without exercise…and I feel guilty for eating carbs and junk since I don’t exercise…my body is dealing with lots of “C” (bathroom issues, sorry TMI) and gas-build up…so tired of forcing food in you know. Feeling guilty for all my choices 😦

Shayla @ The Good Life responded:

I know it’s hard but what worked for me was consistently eating 3 meals a day along with snacks. I made sure to get in 2,000 calories a day and really limited my exercise – it was a long process and it took me a good year to get to and maintain my current healthy weight. If you’re having trouble I would suggest you seeing a counselor or a nutritionist.
